Frequently Asked Questions about ICEit!
Q: What is the difference between ICEit! and ICEit! Pro?
A: ICEit! Pro allows you to place the ICEit! separation into a Photoshop Layer and define a default opacity setting for that layer. This feature allows you ultimate flexibility in applying ICEit! to your images. Additionally, ICEit! Pro offers three specialty separation options: Colorful, Brighten and Extreme, which allow you to push the limits of the SWOP and GRACoL color space when converting your images to CMYK.
Q: What are the system requirements for ICEit!?
A: ICEit! Plug-Ins are designed to run in Photoshop CS3, CS4, or CS5. Mac OS X 10.5 or greater, Windows XP 32-bit, and Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit are supported operating systems.
Q: Do I need to give my printer any special instructions to print ICEit! separations?
A: No. As long as your printer can print to the GRACoL or SWOP print conditions, they should have no problem printing your ICEit! separations. While the printer does not have to change anything to use these separations, it is still a good idea to communicate with your print vendor so they are aware of the change. If your print vendor has any questions about the separations, you can direct them to FineEye support, where our team can address any concerns that arise.
Q: Can ICEit! separations be mixed with normal separations on the same page of a print job?
A: Yes. FineEye research has shown that ICEit! separations maintain their color intent and print benefits when printed in-line with normal separations. In many cases the presence of an ICEit! separation on a page helps normalize the printing of normal separations on the same form.
Q: Are ICEit! separations designed to save ink on press like the results of using other ICE products?
A: ICEit! separations are not specifically designed to reduce ink usage on press but rather are aimed at capturing more of the original RGB gamut and improving the visual appearance of print on press compared to normal separations. The separation techniques do use similar algorithms as other ICE products and therefore will use less ink than a normal separation.
Q: Are ICEit! separations colorimetrically accurate representations of the original?
A: First it should be understood that most RGB originals cannot be reproduced as a colorimetric “match” in normal offset CMYK print. Typical or legacy SWOP or GRACoL CMYK separations do not result in a colorimetric “match” to most RGB originals. This then becomes a relative question on “how” accurate a separation is to an original. FineEye research has shown that ICEit! separations are more colorimetrically accurate to most RGB originals when compared to normal or legacy separations.
